Benfica appears to be on the verge of securing a deal for Colombian midfielder Richard Rios from Palmeiras. Reports from Italy suggest that Roma has withdrawn from negotiations despite submitting an increased bid yesterday evening.
According to the Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, Roma`s latest offer still fell short of the €30 million asking price set by the Brazilian club for their midfielder.
This development has paved the way for Benfica to step in and finalize the transfer.
Roma Shifts Focus to Wesley as Rios Deal Stalls
While the Rios transfer seems unlikely, Roma is set to bring in Flamengo full-back Wesley this summer. Manager Gian Piero Gasperini is keen on strengthening his squad, but it appears Wesley may be the only Brazilian addition to the team.
Despite Wesley`s eagerness to join the Italian capital club, the situation with Rios is different. Palmeiras has remained firm on their valuation of the player, and despite multiple bids from the Serie A side, an agreement could not be reached.
Unwilling to continue negotiations, Roma has decided to withdraw from talks for Rios. This decision opens the door for Benfica to complete the signing of the talented Colombian midfielder.
