Rafael Benitez, previously coach of both Inter and Napoli, has outlined his reasons for believing that Inter Milan is capable of achieving a treble victory this season. This comes even as several teams closely contest the top spots in Serie A.
Inter is among a select few teams in Europe still in contention for the coveted treble – winning the league title, domestic cup, and Champions League in the same season. Their progress in the Champions League, marked by a solid defense, further strengthens their ambition.
Currently leading the Serie A table, albeit by a narrow margin over Napoli, and advancing to the Coppa Italia semi-finals against Milan, Inter demonstrates strong performance across competitions. Despite past encounters with Milan this season, Inter is considered a favorite for the Coppa Italia title.

Key Factors for Inter’s Treble Ambition
Benitez points out that while the season is far from over, Inter, under Simone Inzaghi, possesses the qualities needed for a treble challenge.
In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Benitez highlighted two main reasons for his optimism: “Firstly, their league position, despite close competition from Napoli, Atalanta, and Juventus. Secondly, their status as favorites in the Coppa Italia, even considering the Milan derby challenge. Lastly, their consistent and impressive Champions League form.”

Benitez further elaborated on two critical aspects of Inter’s game: “First, their exceptional defense, rarely allowing opponents clear scoring opportunities, evidenced by their minimal goals conceded in the Champions League. Second, their consistent performance even with key player absences like Dimarco, Cahlanoglu, and Mkhitaryan, proving their squad depth and strong mentality.”
He also humorously added the advantage of Inter’s formidable strikers, stating, “With Thuram and Lautaro up front, they practically start with a goal advantage, sometimes even two.”
