Bologna Advances to Coppa Italia Final, Will Face Milan
Bologna has secured a spot in the Coppa Italia final for the first time in 51 years after defeating Empoli 2-1, resulting in a 5-1 aggregate victory in the semi-final.
The Rossoblu had already established a strong position with a 3-0 win in the first leg. They fielded a formidable lineup despite their recent crucial Serie A victory over Inter, which propelled them to fourth place. Empoli entered the match without a league win in 2025, having previously eliminated Torino, Fiorentina, and Juventus from the competition.
Bologna extended their aggregate lead early on when Giovanni Fabbian scored with a free header from Nikola Moro’s cross just seven minutes into the match. Empoli managed to get on the scoreboard when Viktor Kovalenko capitalized on a rebound from Ola Solbakken’s powerful shot.
The home team sealed their victory in the 86th minute as Thijs Dallinga headed in a cross from Charalampos Lykogiannis. This goal ensured Bologna’s place in the final against Milan, setting up a historic encounter for the club.
The match statistics showed Bologna’s dominance, with 69% possession and 16 total shots compared to Empoli’s 7. The Rossoblu also had more corners and fewer fouls, further demonstrating their control of the game.
This victory marks a significant achievement for Bologna, as they prepare to face Milan in their first Coppa Italia final appearance in over half a century.
