Bologna Coach Italiano Criticizes Team for Late Roma Equalizer
Bologna manager Vincenzo Italiano expressed frustration after his team conceded a last-gasp penalty to draw 2-2 with Roma. Rather than blaming the officials, Italiano pointed to his own team’s shortcomings.
“We keep throwing away points in the final minutes,” Italiano lamented. “The way we handle the ball in added time is disappointing. We can learn from this, but the players are understandably upset about conceding with the last kick.”
Bologna had taken a 2-1 lead through goals from Thijs Dallinga and Lewis Ferguson after falling behind early. However, Artem Dovbyk converted a controversial penalty in the 98th minute after VAR spotted a handball.
Italiano criticized his team’s slow play in the first half but praised their improved performance after the break. “We sensed Roma’s early enthusiasm, but once we took the lead we had chances to go up 3-1,” he noted.
The coach acknowledged that closing out games remains an issue for his young squad. “There’s no coach who can fully explain how to handle the final minutes,” Italiano said. “We need to put individual concerns aside and maintain our team dynamic. Our youth means there’s room for improvement.”
Bologna face a tough test against Inter Milan next week. “We go to San Siro with belief and are ready to give our best,” Italiano stated. “It will be difficult, but we must play to our abilities.”
