Reports suggest that Bologna has reached out to former Juventus winger Federico Bernardeschi regarding a potential Serie A comeback following the termination of his contract with MLS team Toronto FC.
Toronto FC officially announced Bernardeschi`s departure, six months before his contract was set to expire. The club stated they had used one of their two contract buyouts on the Italian player.
Toronto FC General Manager Jason Hernandez commented on the mutual decision to part ways, thanking Bernardeschi for his contributions over the past three years and wishing him well in his future endeavors.
Interestingly, Bernardeschi`s exit coincides with that of his compatriot and former Napoli star Lorenzo Insigne, who has also been released by Toronto FC. Both players are now free agents and are rumored to be considering returns to Italy`s top flight for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
Bologna`s Interest in Bernardeschi
According to reports from Italian football journalists, Vincenzo Italiano`s Bologna has made formal contact with Bernardeschi. The 31-year-old winger, who scored 22 Serie A goals during his time with Juventus and Fiorentina, is said to be open to reducing his salary demands to facilitate a return to Italian football.
Previous transfer windows had seen interest from both Lazio and Roma in acquiring Bernardeschi`s services. However, Bologna now appears to be at the forefront of negotiations for the experienced winger.
As the transfer market develops, it remains to be seen whether Bernardeschi will make his anticipated return to Serie A with Bologna or if other clubs will enter the race for his signature.
