Botafogo in Negotiations with Dunkerque’s Luis Castro for Head Coach Position
Brazilian football club Botafogo, under the ownership of John Textor, has set its sights on Dunkerque’s manager Luis Castro to fill their vacant head coach position. The Copa Libertadores champions have reportedly initiated discussions with the Portuguese coach, who has been making waves in France’s Ligue 2.
Castro has led Dunkerque to an impressive fifth place in Ligue 2 this season, showcasing an attractive style of play that has put the team in contention for promotion playoffs. The club’s recent success extends beyond the league, as they stunned Lille in the Coupe de France round of 16, advancing on penalties. This victory set up a quarter-final clash with Champions League participants Stade Brestois.
Despite Botafogo’s interest, Dunkerque’s Sporting Director Demba Ba remains confident in Castro’s commitment to the club. Ba, a former Chelsea and Newcastle striker, stated, “Our coach is fully dedicated to our project. His daily contributions to our sports department are invaluable, and he embodies our values perfectly. I don’t foresee him departing from our team.” Castro recently extended his contract with Dunkerque until 2027, further emphasizing his loyalty to the French club.
As negotiations continue, it remains to be seen whether Botafogo can persuade Castro to leave his successful project in France for a new challenge in Brazil.
