Brice Samba Discusses Relationship with Steve Mandanda at Rennes
When Stade Rennais signed Brice Samba from RC Lens in the winter transfer window, it signaled the end of Steve Mandanda’s tenure as the club’s primary goalkeeper. Despite this potentially awkward situation, Samba has revealed that he and Mandanda maintain a positive relationship.
During a recent press conference before Rennes’ match against AS Saint-Étienne, Samba addressed the situation. He explained, “I was fortunate to have worked with Steve previously in Marseille. We have a good rapport and get along well. This is simply the nature of football. Even for me, there may come a time when a new goalkeeper arrives, performs better, and takes my position.”
Samba’s comments reflect a mature understanding of the competitive nature of professional football, particularly in the goalkeeper position. His perspective demonstrates respect for Mandanda while acknowledging the realities of the sport.
Rennes, coming off a 1-0 victory against RC Strasbourg Alsace, are hoping to secure another win under their new head coach, Habib Beye. The former Red Star manager recently took over from Jorge Sampaoli, who had been appointed mid-season.
