Bruno Pizzul, the renowned TV commentator and iconic voice of Italian football, died on Wednesday at the age of 86.
Born in Udine in 1938, Pizzul initially had a career as a professional football player. He played as a midfielder for several clubs, including Pro Gorizia, Catania, Ischia, and Cremonese, in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

After graduating with a law degree, Pizzul transitioned into journalism. In 1969, he joined RAI, Italy’s national public broadcasting corporation, and began his career as a sports commentator with a Coppa Italia match between Juventus and Bologna in the same year.
In 1986, Pizzul became the main commentator for the Italian national football team, a position he held until 2002.

His time as commentator covered numerous FIFA World Cups and UEFA European Championships. His voice became deeply associated with the highs and lows of Italian football during that era. His talent for capturing the excitement and emotion of the game resonated with fans, making him a much-loved broadcaster.
