Deportivo Alaves has confirmed the departure of Eduardo "Chacho" Coudet, who is widely expected to take over as manager of River Plate in Argentina. Coudet's tenure at Alaves lasted 18 months, during which he successfully steered the team away from relegation in his initial season and was on track to achieve the same this season.

Just days before his exit was finalized, Coudet had publicly denied any discussions with River Plate, despite intense speculation linking him to El Monumental. However, on Tuesday night, Alaves formally acknowledged Coudet's contributions over his 55 games in charge and announced his departure.

River Plate and Alaves Finalize Coudet Transfer

Reports indicate that an agreement was reached between River Plate and Alaves regarding Coudet's services. Following Marcelo Gallardo's departure last week, El Millionario sought a new manager and ultimately settled on Coudet. While the precise value of the deal remains undisclosed, as Coudet did not have a release clause, initial reports suggested Alaves requested €2 million, with River's offer starting at €800,000. Coudet is anticipated to be officially appointed as River Plate's new manager on Wednesday.

Quique Sanchez Flores Steps In as Coudet's Successor

Alaves acted swiftly to replace Coudet, announcing the appointment of Quique Sanchez Flores on a 2.5-year contract until 2028 just minutes after Coudet's exit was made public. The experienced manager boasts a comprehensive career, having managed over 350 La Liga matches and successfully navigating challenging situations at clubs such as Valencia, Getafe, Espanyol, and Sevilla. His resume also includes spells at Benfica, Watford, and Atletico Madrid.

Sanchez Flores is viewed as a reliable choice to stabilize the team, with Alaves keen to maintain their La Liga status during the remaining 12 games of the season. Currently positioned 16th, three points above the relegation zone, Sanchez Flores will make his debut in the dugout for Alaves' upcoming clash against Valencia at Mestalla on Sunday.
