Buongiorno’s Absence in Napoli-Bologna Match Explained
In an unexpected turn of events, Napoli’s defense will be missing a key player in their match against Bologna. Alessandro Buongiorno, a cornerstone of the team’s backline, is sidelined due to a minor muscle discomfort. This comes as a surprise to many, as goalkeeper Alex Meret’s absence due to flu-like symptoms was already anticipated.
Juan Jesus will step in to replace Buongiorno, marking his first start since February 15th against Lazio. In goal, Simone Scuffet will make his Napoli debut, returning to Serie A action for the first time since January 5th when he played for Cagliari against Monza.
This setback marks Buongiorno’s third interruption this season. Previously, he was sidelined in August 2024 with a minor ankle sprain and then faced a more extended absence from December 2024 to late January 2025 due to a lumbar vertebra fracture. The current muscle issue represents his first such problem this season.
While Buongiorno is included in the squad and will be available on the bench at Dall’Ara Stadium, the decision to rest him appears to be precautionary. Napoli’s coaching staff likely aims to prevent any potential aggravation of the muscle discomfort, prioritizing the player’s long-term fitness.
