Cagliari and Genoa Share Points in Serie A Clash: 1-1 Draw

Cagliari took the lead and coach Davide Nicola was hoping for a valuable three points against Genoa, but Cornet’s goal early in the second half secured a draw. While this point is helpful for Cagliari in the standings, it does not lift them out of the relegation zone. Viola’s goal, assisted by Piccoli, concluded a strong first half for the home side. Genoa put pressure on in the second half, especially with the introduction of Pinamonti as a substitute. Cagliari’s final push with Pavoletti created some opportunities, but it was not enough to change the outcome of the match. Genoa remains comfortably in mid-table, marking their second consecutive 1-1 draw under coach Vieira, following their draw at home against Empoli.

Key Moments

  • 75′ Cornet, seemingly injured, is replaced by Malinovskyi for Genoa. This marks Malinovskyi’s return to the field after an injury sustained on September 21, 2024, against Venezia.
  • 61′ Another Genoa attack: Caprile intercepts a low cross from Zanoli, averting the danger.
  • 58′ Huge chance for Genoa! Martin delivers a perfect cross into the box to find De Winter, but his header from close range goes wide!
  • 55′ Excellent defending by Zanoli to stop Augello, who was set up by Viola with a very promising through ball.
  • 47′ GOAL FOR GENOA! In their first attack of the second half, Cornet scores, assisted by a low cross from Ekuban from the right. Cornet was unmarked and easily beat Caprile from close range.
  • 45′ Genoa chance! Martin’s free-kick into the box causes confusion. Ekhator somehow leaves the ball for Ekuban, who touches it past the onrushing Caprile but incredibly sends it wide!
  • 41′ Genoa chance! Sustained pressure from Badelj who dribbles in the box and then looks for a pass to the far post from the left. Norton-Cuffy is slightly late and misses the Croatian’s pass.
  • 39′ Zortea crosses from the right, seeking Piccoli. The striker attempts a flicked shot at the near post, but the ball goes wide.
  • 31′ Coman cannot continue due to an injury sustained a few minutes earlier and is replaced by Augello.
  • 26′ Piccoli shoots from distance, but the ball goes wide. Cagliari has been much more convincing in the first half-hour, beyond just their lead.
  • 18′ GOAL FOR CAGLIARI! Perfect counter-attack starting from a significant slip by Ekhator, then a long ball to Piccoli who holds off Norton-Cuffy and sets up Viola in front of goal. The attacking midfielder enters the box and beats Leali.
  • 15′ Genoa hits the post! Coman surprises Leali with a right-footed curler from a free-kick on the right. Great swerve, but the ball hits the upright.
  • 10′ Goal disallowed for Piccoli, who had run behind Vasquez to beat Leali. His position was deemed slightly offside.
