Cagliari is looking to reinforce their midfield for the upcoming 2025-26 season, with Napoli`s Italian international Michael Folorunsho and AC Milan-owned Tommaso Pobega emerging as prime targets.
Under the guidance of new manager Fabio Pisacane, the Sardinian club aims to secure a more comfortable position in Serie A, avoiding the stress of a relegation battle. With Nicolas Viola`s departure as a free agent, Cagliari needs to bring in at least one, if not two, new midfielders.
Folorunsho and Pobega: Key Targets for Cagliari
Folorunsho, a versatile 27-year-old who was part of Italy`s EURO 2024 squad, is currently under contract with Napoli until June 2029. He recently returned from a loan spell at Fiorentina, where he struggled to find regular playing time.
Pobega, who will turn 26 this month, is another prospect on Cagliari`s radar. A product of AC Milan`s youth academy, he has gained valuable experience through loan spells at various clubs including Ternana, Pordenone, Spezia, Torino, and most recently, Bologna.
Bologna had an option to buy Pobega for €12 million but chose not to exercise it, hoping to negotiate a lower fee. This situation could potentially open the door for Cagliari to make a move for the talented midfielder.
As Cagliari looks to strengthen their squad, the addition of either Folorunsho or Pobega could provide the necessary boost to their midfield, helping the team achieve their goals for the upcoming season.
