Calabria’s New Chapter: Leaving Milan’s Challenges for Bologna’s Promising Future
Davide Calabria, formerly of AC Milan, has embarked on a new journey with Bologna. In his first press conference at Casteldebole, Calabria opened up about his departure from Milan and his aspirations with his new club.
“More than seeking revenge, I’m eager to play consistently as I did for the past 7-8 years,” Calabria stated. “In recent months, certain situations created difficulties. I’m happy to be here now. I’ve found the environment I was looking for – healthy, with a drive to work. There’s a positive energy here that I’ve missed lately.”
Reflecting on his exit from Milan, Calabria expressed mixed emotions: “There was some sadness in saying goodbye because I grew up in that environment. I left people I’d known for years, and I know how much I gave to that jersey. Here in Bologna, I sense potential and a positive atmosphere.”
Calabria’s move to Bologna is on a five-month loan, coinciding with his contract’s expiration. He views this as a personal challenge: “I think coming here without considering long-term contracts shows my ambition. I want to prove myself, confident in what I can do. The financial aspect is the least of my concerns.”
Looking ahead, Calabria aims high: “In recent years, I’ve always played in the Champions League. I want to return to European competitions. Coach Italiano’s requirements for full-backs are similar to what Pioli expected from me at Milan. I’m ready for the challenge.”
Bologna’s sporting director, Di Vaio, leaves the door open for Calabria’s future: “We know how difficult it was for him to leave his home. He has a contract until June, and then we’ll discuss, but for now, we’re focused on the present.”
As Calabria begins this new chapter, he brings experience, ambition, and a renewed sense of purpose to Bologna, eager to contribute to the team’s success and potentially secure a longer-term future with the club.
