Arsenal’s Italian defender, Riccardo Calafiori, mentioned that playing as a striker would be challenging, despite his effective performance in the final third. He scored in Arsenal’s dominant 7-1 victory against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League Round of 16 first leg.
Calafiori, previously a defender for Bologna, first provided an assist for Leandro Trossard’s goal, which was Arsenal’s fifth of the match. Then, he scored his debut Champions League goal, displaying striker-like movement and a composed finish.

Calafiori: ‘I’m Ready to Play in Attack if the Coach Asks’
The 22-year-old Calafiori was happy with his performance and stated he is willing to play as a forward if coach Mikel Arteta requests it. However, he admitted that maintaining consistency in that role might be difficult because he lacks experience playing there.
“I’m happy about the win and my first Champions League goal; it’s a dream come true,” Calafiori told Sky Sport Italia after the game.
“As I’ve always said, I feel capable of playing in any position, and I would definitely be ready to play in attack.”
“However, realistically, we need to consider the technical and tactical aspects. It wouldn’t be easy because I’ve never played as a striker before.”
“Of course, if asked, I would do it, but I’m unsure if I can be a reliable option in that position.”
“Being positioned in attack from the start is different from arriving in the box from a deeper position, which is something I am good at.”
Calafiori also shared his joy on social media, posting an Instagram story to celebrate his first goal in the top European competition.
