Former AC Milan coach Fabio Capello believes the Rossoneri will experience a significant mental boost under the leadership of Massimiliano Allegri. However, he emphasizes that securing a top-four finish is crucial to avoid another disappointing season.
Milan is on the brink of officially announcing Allegri`s return to the club after more than a decade. The experienced tactician faces the challenge of rebuilding a team that failed to qualify for European competition last season.
Igli Tare, Milan`s new director, acted swiftly to bring in the former Juventus and Milan manager, who boasts an impressive record of six Serie A titles.
Capello, writing for La Gazzetta dello Sport, stated, “It was essential to send a clear message to the entire organization following an extremely disappointing season. Milan can no longer afford mistakes, and they`ve started off on the right foot.”
The former coach is confident that Allegri is the ideal candidate to restore Milan to its former glory. He anticipates that players will avoid repeating past mistakes under Allegri`s guidance.
“I`m certain that Tare played a crucial role in the decision to appoint Max, a coach with extensive experience and a strong personality. With Allegri in charge, I expect to see an end to the inconsistencies of last season,” Capello explained.
Capello Outlines Milan`s Objectives Under Allegri
Capello emphasized the immediate impact Allegri can have on the team`s mentality. “Last season, we witnessed a team that would perform brilliantly for 20 minutes and then lose focus. Many players were eager to attack but few showed the same commitment when it came to defensive duties. This won`t happen under Allegri, who has always fostered a unified environment and a team with clear purpose and balance.”
Regarding transfers, Capello advised against selling Tijjani Reijnders, stating, “If the Dutchman does leave, he must be adequately replaced.” He also suggested that Tare and Allegri should collaborate on technical decisions, while CEO Giorgio Furlani should oversee financial aspects of signings.
Capello concluded by setting a clear target for Milan in the 2025-26 season: “While I can`t predict how far they`ll go, I know exactly where they must finish. Securing a top-four position is essential; anything less would undoubtedly be another failure.”
