Renowned former coach Fabio Capello has advised Simone Inzaghi to continue his tenure as Inter Milan`s head coach, despite rumors of a highly lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal.
Inzaghi, who recently suffered a devastating 5-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final, has been linked with a potential move away from San Siro at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season. The Inter tactician is scheduled to meet with club management early next week to discuss his future plans.
Despite the disappointment of the Champions League final, Capello believes Inzaghi`s best option is to remain in his current position at Inter. The former England manager acknowledges that the heavy defeat to PSG was more than just a simple loss, but he maintains that continuing their partnership is the ideal scenario for both Inter and Inzaghi, provided the club retains faith in the coach.
Capello views the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup as a silver lining for Inter, offering an immediate chance to showcase their true potential. He suggested what Inzaghi should have said after the final: “The Club World Cup presents an immediate opportunity for redemption. We are committed to working hard and making amends.”
Expressing some concern over Inzaghi`s post-match comments, Capello stated, “His words that night left me uncertain. While context is important, as a 5-0 loss is more than just a defeat, I remain perplexed. It seemed to hint at a farewell.”
However, Capello believes that Inter CEO Beppe Marotta still has complete confidence in Inzaghi`s abilities. “This is crucial,” he explained. “The club`s trust is fundamental for a coach to continue his work, especially after such a bitter experience in the Champions League final.”
When asked what he would do in Inzaghi`s position, Capello`s advice was clear: “I would call Marotta and say, `Tell me where to sign, and let`s move forward together.`”
