Casillas Supports Real Madrid’s Complaint Against Referees
Iker Casillas, the legendary former goalkeeper of Real Madrid, has expressed his support for the club’s recent complaint to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) regarding the officiating in their La Liga match against Espanyol.
“I believe this is the right move because the club must protect its interests,” Casillas stated. “Since the introduction of VAR, the referees’ decisions are now scrutinized more closely. It’s crucial to have experienced former players involved who can provide insight into what they see. We can often determine when an action might be intentional, such as Pique’s handball incident.”
Real Madrid has officially published a letter on their website addressed to the RFEF, voicing their concerns and requesting audio recordings of the conversations between the main referee and the VAR officials during the match.
This move by Real Madrid highlights the ongoing tensions surrounding refereeing decisions in Spanish football, particularly with the implementation of VAR technology. The club’s action, supported by a respected figure like Casillas, underscores the importance of transparency and fairness in officiating at the highest levels of the sport.
