Castro Eager to Meet Messi and Argentina’s Star Players
Bologna’s young striker Santiago Castro has expressed his enthusiasm about receiving his first call-up to the Argentina national team. The 20-year-old, who has impressed this season with 10 goals and 8 assists in 38 appearances for Bologna, is looking forward to meeting soccer icon Lionel Messi and other World Cup-winning players.
“It was unexpected, and I’m overjoyed,” Castro told local media upon arriving in Argentina. “I shared the news with my family. I’m still processing the fact that I’ll be training with Messi and all the incredible players who have brought us so much happiness. I’m ready for whatever comes.”
Castro, who joined Bologna from Velez in January 2024, has become a key player for the Italian club following Joshua Zirkzee’s transfer to Manchester United. Despite holding an Italian passport, the striker chose to represent his native Argentina.
The young talent is set to meet with Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni soon and hopes to be prepared for the opportunity. Castro’s contract with Bologna runs until June 2028, and his international debut could mark the beginning of a promising career with the national team.
