Celtic’s Kyogo Furuhashi Set to Join Rennes After Completing Medical
Japanese striker Kyogo Furuhashi has arrived in Rennes to undergo a medical examination ahead of his proposed transfer from Celtic FC. The 30-year-old is expected to sign a three-and-a-half-year contract with the French Ligue 1 club, keeping him at Rennes until 2028.
Sources confirm that Furuhashi flew from Glasgow to Rennes on Thursday to begin the first part of his medical assessment. Barring any unforeseen issues, the Celtic forward is set to officially sign his contract on Friday.
Rennes manager Jorge Sampaoli expressed optimism about Furuhashi’s imminent arrival, stating: “We hope to finalize Kyogo’s deal today. If all goes well, he could potentially feature in our upcoming away match against Monaco on Saturday. He’s a player we’ve been keen on acquiring to bolster our attacking options.”
The transfer fee for Furuhashi is reported to be around €12 million, including performance-related bonuses. As part of the deal, former Celtic winger Jota, who has struggled to make an impact since joining Rennes last summer, is expected to return to the Scottish club.
Furuhashi’s move to Rennes marks the end of his successful spell at Celtic, where he became a fan favorite. The Japanese international will now look to make his mark in French football as Rennes aim to strengthen their squad for the remainder of the season.
