Chancel Mbemba Declines Rennes’ Offer, Faces Uncertain Future at Marseille
Chancel Mbemba, the 30-year-old Marseille defender, is at risk of spending an entire year without playing time. The center-back has been excluded from the first team since last summer, with manager Roberto De Zerbi making it clear that Mbemba does not fit into his plans. Despite being allowed to train with the first team for legal reasons, De Zerbi’s stance remains unchanged.
As a result, Mbemba has not made any appearances this season. With his contract set to expire at the end of the campaign, it’s evident that his future lies away from Marseille. If he wishes to play before the season concludes, he must seek opportunities elsewhere – and there are interested parties.
Several Ligue 1 clubs have expressed interest in the former Newcastle United player, including Stade Rennais, FC Nantes, and Montpellier HSC. However, Mbemba has recently turned down an approach from Rennes. While Montpellier and Nantes remain interested, Mbemba’s rejection of Rennes suggests that he may not be receptive to their offers either.
Marseille continues to demand a €3 million transfer fee for the defender, despite his contract expiring in a matter of months. As the January transfer window progresses, Mbemba’s future remains uncertain, with the player seemingly reluctant to accept offers from other French clubs.
