According to multiple reports, Chelsea and AC Milan are expected to reach an agreement on Monday for the transfer of goalkeeper Mike Maignan to Stamford Bridge.
The 29-year-old French international is on the verge of joining Chelsea after reportedly agreeing personal terms with the Premier League club. The two sides are set to finalize a deal worth around £18 million on June 9th.
Chelsea were initially reluctant to pay more than £13 million for Maignan, but Milan managed to negotiate a slightly higher fee. The relatively low price tag is partly due to Maignan`s contract at San Siro expiring in 2026.
If Chelsea want Maignan to be eligible for the Club World Cup, they must officially announce his signing before Tuesday at 8:00 PM CET.
With Maignan`s departure imminent, AC Milan have identified Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar as a potential replacement. The 23-year-old Serbian also has a contract running until 2026.
The transfer represents a major coup for Chelsea as they look to strengthen their goalkeeping options ahead of next season. Maignan has established himself as one of Europe`s top shot-stoppers during his time at Milan.
