Chelsea Contemplates Selling Wesley Fofana Amid Marseille’s Interest
Chelsea is reportedly considering the departure of their injury-plagued defender Wesley Fofana, 24, this summer. The French player has faced numerous health setbacks since his €80 million transfer from Leicester City in 2022.
Fofana’s time at Chelsea has been marred by injuries, limiting him to only 14 appearances across all competitions this season. In total, he has played just 34 matches since joining the London club three years ago.
The Premier League team may be ready to cut their losses. They are open to Fofana leaving, either on loan or permanently. Olympique de Marseille, who have long admired the France international, maintain their interest. Fofana, a lifelong Marseille fan, is reportedly receptive to the idea of joining the French club.
In a previous interview, Fofana revealed that Marseille had approached him last summer. He admitted to considering the offer, which came from Medhi Benatia, Marseille’s sporting director. However, at the time, Fofana chose to stay at Chelsea, aiming to establish himself and play regularly for the Blues. His current contract with Chelsea extends until 2029.
