Chelsea Eyeing Move for Standout European Full-Back
Chelsea are reportedly interested in acquiring one of Europe’s top full-backs this summer, though they may face stiff competition from other Premier League clubs. The Blues are said to be targeting Nottingham Forest right-back Ola Aina, who has impressed this season with his performances.
While Chelsea’s defense has been relatively solid this campaign, manager Enzo Maresca appears more concerned with his team’s attacking output. Strikers Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku have struggled to find consistent form in front of goal.
However, the club is still looking to strengthen defensively and views Aina as an attractive option. The 28-year-old Nigerian international has been a key player for Forest this season, making 30 Premier League appearances before a recent calf injury.
Aina’s contract expires this summer, potentially allowing him to leave on a free transfer if Forest cannot agree to new terms. His current wages are reported to be around £40,000 per week. Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Tottenham are also said to be monitoring the situation closely.
Football journalist Zach Lowy recently praised Aina’s performances, stating: “Ola Aina has truly been one of the best full-backs in Europe this season. He’s very effective going forward but consistently delivers at least a 7/10 performance. Forest are fortunate to have him.”
Despite the interest, Chelsea already have strong options at right-back with Reece James and Malo Gusto. A move for Aina may only materialize if one of the current players departs in the upcoming transfer window.
