Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing a highly-rated striker this summer and may have an advantage over other clubs.
Blues’ Striker Search
Chelsea have been searching for a top-quality striker for some time. Victor Osimhen was a primary target last summer, but the transfer didn’t happen, leading to Nicolas Jackson playing as the main striker this season.
Jackson started well, but the 23-year-old has not scored in this calendar year. It’s increasingly likely that manager Enzo Maresca will try to bring in a better striker during the summer transfer window.
Reporter Florian Plettenberg recently mentioned that RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko is a target for Chelsea. Maresca’s team is said to have strong interest in the Slovenian player. They are also expected to discuss signing Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak.
Chelsea’s chances of signing strikers like Isak may depend on whether they qualify for the Champions League this season. The competition for those spots is tight as the Premier League season nears its end.
However, Chelsea are also considering alternative options in case they cannot sign their main targets. They have now also shown interest in Strasbourg’s Emanuel Emegha, according to a report.
Emegha is seen as a good backup option if their primary striker pursuits are unsuccessful. Strasbourg might be willing to sell him for a relatively low price between €22m and €25m (£18-21m).
Several Premier League clubs including Everton, West Ham United, Aston Villa, and Newcastle United have also shown interest in Emegha. However, Chelsea might have an advantage because Strasbourg are also owned by BlueCo, Chelsea’s ownership group. This connection could make negotiations easier if Chelsea decide to seriously pursue Emegha.
“Phenomenal” Emegha Impressing in France
Emegha has performed well in Ligue 1 this season, scoring 11 goals. He has been in excellent form in 2025, with eight goals and one assist.
Football talent scout Jacek Kulig has praised the 22-year-old as ‘phenomenal’, suggesting he has the potential to play for a top Premier League club in the future.
However, Emegha is likely to be considered a secondary option for Chelsea, especially since other potential signings have more experience at the highest level.
Chelsea are still interested in Osimhen, despite failing to sign him last summer. The Nigerian striker has a proven goal-scoring record, including nine goals in 17 Champions League matches and 26 goals for Napoli in their Serie A title-winning season.
