Chelsea Informed of Potential £59m January Signing to Replace Veiga
Chelsea have been notified that they have the opportunity to sign Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen this January as a potential replacement for Renato Veiga, who is set to join Juventus on loan.
According to reports, Juventus have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Veiga on a temporary deal until the end of the 2024/25 season. The loan will include a €5 million fee, with no option to buy. Veiga is expected to play as a center-back for Juventus, fulfilling his desire to feature in that position.
With Veiga’s departure, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca will be short one defender for the remainder of the season. The club has now been made aware that they could sign Hincapie from Leverkusen, though the Ecuadorian defender would cost around £59 million.
At 23 years old, Hincapie fits Chelsea’s profile of a young, developing player. He has made 18 Bundesliga appearances this season, maintaining an impressive 90.4% passing accuracy. Capable of playing both center-back and full-back, Hincapie offers versatility in defense.
However, it remains questionable whether Chelsea would be willing to spend nearly £60 million on Hincapie, especially after recently recalling versatile defender Trevoh Chalobah from loan. The club will need to weigh their options carefully as they look to strengthen their defensive options for the second half of the season.
