Chelsea Pursue £76m “Monster” Striker as Potential Jackson Upgrade

Chelsea are exploring options to bolster their attack and provide competition for Nicolas Jackson, with reports suggesting they are in talks to sign Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran.

The Blues have struggled for consistent goalscoring this season, with Jackson failing to find the net since mid-December. This poor run of form has seen Chelsea drop to 6th in the Premier League table.

According to sources, Chelsea have made contact with Aston Villa regarding a move for Duran, who is valued at around £76 million. However, they face competition from PSG, who are willing to offer £59 million plus players in exchange.

The 21-year-old Colombian has impressed at Villa Park this season, scoring 12 goals in just over 1,000 minutes of action. Talent scout Jacek Kulig has described Duran as a “monster in the making” due to his clinical finishing and aerial ability.

Compared to Jackson, Duran offers a more traditional number 9 profile:

– 1.04 goals per 90 vs Jackson’s 0.48
– 4.70 shots per 90 vs Jackson’s 3.26
– 3.16 aerial duels won per 90 vs Jackson’s 0.64

While Jackson contributes more in build-up play, Duran’s predatory instincts in the box could provide Chelsea with a different dimension in attack. His aerial presence could also benefit creative wingers like Pedro Neto.

With Chelsea lacking ruthlessness in front of goal this season, the addition of a clinical finisher like Duran could help turn draws into wins as they push for a top four spot. However, his hefty price tag may prove a stumbling block in negotiations.
