Chelsea Target “New Aguero” as £25m Striker Outshines Current Options
Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Spartak Moscow striker Manfred Ugalde, who has been dubbed the “new Aguero” due to his prolific goalscoring form this season. The 22-year-old Costa Rican has netted 15 goals in 18 Russian Premier League games, outperforming Chelsea’s current striking options.
Despite strong performances from Nicolas Jackson and youngster Marc Guiu in European competition, Chelsea are still looking to bolster their attacking options. Ugalde has a reported £25 million release clause in his contract, which has alerted several Premier League clubs including Arsenal and Manchester City.
Ugalde’s stats are impressive compared to Chelsea’s current strikers:
– 15 league goals vs 9 for Jackson and 0 for Guiu
– 3.64 shots per 90 minutes vs 3.12 for Jackson
– 1.82 shots on target per 90 vs 1.6 for Jackson
At just 5 foot 8 inches tall, Ugalde has drawn comparisons to Sergio Aguero, who scored 260 goals for Manchester City despite his small stature. The Costa Rican also contributes defensively, making nearly as many successful tackles as Jackson who is known for his pressing ability.
While Chelsea have been scoring freely this season, the addition of a clinical finisher like Ugalde could elevate them to title contenders. However, they will face stiff competition to secure his signature in the January transfer window.
