Despite no official announcement from Chelsea or AS Saint-Étienne, Mathis Amougou (19) is widely considered to be a Chelsea player.
A transfer agreement for €15 million was reached between the clubs on the transfer deadline. Contrary to earlier reports, Amougou will not be joining RC Strasbourg Alsace, Chelsea’s partner club, immediately. Due to the closure of the transfer window, such a move is currently impossible.
Consequently, Amougou will remain at Chelsea for the next three months to continue his development with the Premier League club. The plan is for him to be loaned to Strasbourg next season. Andrey Santos (20) is expected to move in the opposite direction. The Brazilian midfielder will have spent 18 months with Strasbourg by the end of the season, during which time he has shown significant improvement.
It is understood that Amougou’s move to Strasbourg is intended for him to become a regular starter, while Santos is returning to Chelsea with the aim of being integrated into the first-team squad at Stamford Bridge.
