Club Brugge 0-0 Juventus: Disappointing Champions League stalemate
Juventus were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw away to Club Brugge in their Champions League group stage match. The Italian side dominated possession but struggled to create many clear-cut chances against the determined Belgian outfit.
The best opportunity of the first half fell to Douglas Luiz, but the Juventus midfielder scuffed his half-volley wide after controlling the ball twice with his shoulder. Club Brugge nearly took the lead early in the second half when Michele Di Gregorio’s poor clearance gifted Ferran Jutglà a chance, but the striker fired just wide from the edge of the box.
Nico Gonzalez squandered Juventus’ clearest opening on 51 minutes, stumbling over the ball when presented with a simple tap-in from 10 yards out after good work by Mbangula down the left flank. Late on, Manuel Locatelli stung the palms of Simon Mignolet with a long-range effort, but neither side could find a breakthrough.
The result leaves Juventus with just one point from their opening two Champions League games, while Club Brugge will be pleased to have held the Italian giants to a draw. Both teams lacked attacking quality on the night in what was ultimately a disappointing spectacle for the neutral.
