Como 1907 Signs French Midfielder Maxence Caqueret from Lyon

Italian Serie A newcomers Como 1907 have completed the signing of French midfielder Maxence Caqueret from Olympique Lyonnais for a fee of €16.5 million. The 24-year-old former France U21 international underwent a medical examination on Sunday before putting pen to paper on a four-and-a-half-year contract with the club.

Caqueret’s move comes after a period of reduced playing time at Lyon, where manager Pierre Sage has preferred other midfield options such as Nemanja Matic, Corentin Tolisso, Jordan Veretout, and Tanner Tessmann.

Como’s manager, former Arsenal and Barcelona star Cesc Fabregas, played a crucial role in convincing Caqueret to join the Italian side. Fabregas praised the young Frenchman’s versatility and ability to control the game’s pace, emphasizing that his experience at the highest levels of European football would be a valuable asset to the team.

For Caqueret, leaving his boyhood club marks a significant change in his career. He expressed excitement about the new challenge and revealed that conversations with Fabregas were instrumental in his decision to join Como. The midfielder cited Fabregas’s illustrious career and clear explanation of the club’s project as key factors in his choice.

This transfer represents a major coup for Como 1907 as they look to establish themselves in Serie A, while for Caqueret, it offers a fresh opportunity to showcase his talents in a new league.
