Como Acquires Caqueret from Lyon in €17M Deal
Como Football Club has officially completed the signing of midfielder Maxence Caqueret from Olympique Lyonnais. The deal is reportedly worth around €17 million, with €15 million as the base fee and an additional €2 million in potential bonuses.
The 24-year-old French player underwent a medical examination on Saturday and has now signed a contract that will keep him at Como until June 2028. However, reports suggest the contract includes a release clause at a reduced fee if Como are relegated from Serie A at the end of the 2024-25 season.
Caqueret expressed his excitement about joining Como, stating: “I’m thrilled to be part of this club with its ambitious project. I believe we have everything necessary to progress and succeed. I’m looking forward to starting this new chapter in my career in this beautiful city.”
The midfielder, who turns 25 next month, is a product of Lyon’s youth academy. He made 14 appearances for Lyon this season before making the move to Italy. Caqueret cited conversations with Como’s coach, former Arsenal and Barcelona star Cesc Fabregas, as a key factor in his decision to join the club.
Como, owned by Indonesian businessman Robert Hartono, has been actively strengthening their squad. They recently signed goalkeeper Jean Butez from Royal Antwerp and forward Assane Diao from Real Betis, both of whom debuted in Como’s recent 1-1 draw against Lazio.
The acquisition of Caqueret represents a significant statement of intent from Como as they look to establish themselves as a competitive force in Serie A.
