AC Milan manager Sergio Conceicao revealed that he has not yet informed his strikers Santiago Gimenez and Luka Jovic who will start in the upcoming Coppa Italia Final against Bologna. The Portuguese coach emphasized that the pressure surrounding such a crucial match is normal for a club of Milan`s stature.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference at the Olimpico, Conceicao stated, “This pressure is an integral part of Milan`s legacy. It`s expected at top clubs. Our focus must be solely on tomorrow`s match and being fully prepared.”
Conceicao, who previously played at the Olimpico as a Lazio player, is aiming for his second trophy as Milan`s coach following their Supercoppa victory in January. He acknowledged the stadium`s significance in his career but stressed the importance of the present, saying, “We need to be at our best against a team that approaches every challenge with utmost intensity.”
Regarding the striker selection for the final, Conceicao admitted, “I haven`t made the decision yet, nor have I informed the players. They are unaware of who will start.” He praised the team`s recent positive results and the collective growth of the squad.
The coach also confirmed Rafael Leao`s return to fitness and availability for the match. He noted Bologna`s returning players as well but emphasized that while individual players are important, the team`s collective performance is paramount.
Conceicao concluded by highlighting the team`s resilience, citing their numerous comebacks in Serie A this season. He attributed this to the strong unity within the squad and the impactful contributions from substitutes. “I feel confident in our current situation, and I hope we can translate this onto the field from the very beginning of tomorrow`s match,” he stated.
