Conceicao Challenges Critics: “When Was the Last Time Milan Won Two Trophies in a Season?”
AC Milan coach Sergio Conceicao defended his team’s performance and his own record following a 1-0 defeat to Atalanta. He emphasized the potential for winning two trophies this season, a feat he claims Milan hasn’t achieved in some time.
Conceicao revealed that the team had prepared for Atalanta’s playing style, particularly their crossing to the far post, which ultimately led to the decisive goal. He expressed disappointment in the lack of aggression from substitute players and admitted to tactical adjustments in pursuit of an equalizer.
The coach addressed ongoing speculation about his future at the club, stating, “Since my arrival, there’s been constant talk about potential replacements, even after winning the Supercoppa and my first Serie A match. It’s challenging for those I work with to see these stories, as it doesn’t provide stability.”
Conceicao also highlighted the lack of respect he feels from some quarters: “It’s difficult to see the lack of respect, with people talking about the Milan coach as if he’s never been in a dressing room or worked in football before. That’s simply not true.”
Looking ahead, Conceicao emphasized the importance of the upcoming Coppa Italia semi-final against Inter Milan. “My future is tomorrow, to prepare for the game against Inter in the best possible way so we can reach the Final and try to win the trophy. Winning two trophies in one season – I don’t know how long it has been since Milan did that, but it’s not normal.”
The match against Atalanta saw Milan struggle to create chances and mount a comeback after conceding. This result leaves the team in ninth place with 51 points from 33 games, making European qualification through league position unlikely. Their best hope now rests on winning the Coppa Italia to secure a Europa League spot.
