Sergio Conceicao expressed his satisfaction with Milan’s “attitude” as they rallied from a 2-0 deficit to secure a 3-2 victory against Lecce. He pointed out the team’s improved organization, which he believes is a result of having dedicated time for training.
There were speculations that Conceicao’s position might be at risk if Milan didn’t secure a win at Stadio Via del Mare. The situation seemed dire when Lecce took a 2-0 lead with two goals from Nikola Krstovic, after two earlier goals were disallowed for offside.
Milan’s comeback began with a fortunate deflection of Joao Felix’s shot off Antonino Gallo. Christian Pulisic then contributed significantly, winning and converting a penalty, and later scoring from a Rafael Leao cross at the far post.
Conceicao stated to DAZN, “We had more time during the week to prepare for this match. We analyzed Lecce’s strengths and weaknesses, and the players diligently followed my instructions.”
He added, “Regarding dynamism, ball control, quality, and passing, we performed well. Despite having two goals disallowed and then falling behind 2-0, the team showed great character to recover. The second half started challenging, but the players’ character shone through.”
“It was crucial to attack while maintaining defensive balance against a team strong in counter-attacks. We managed to do just that. I commend the squad for their attitude and their work throughout the week. This victory provides a solid foundation for future progress. Having consistent training time is essential for building these foundations and ensuring the right approach from the beginning of each game.”
Conceicao Aims to Define Milan’s Identity

Sergio Conceicao took over from Paulo Fonseca on December 30. This recent period marks the first time he has had a full week to prepare the team for a game.
“I value on-pitch training, and while it’s not an excuse, our pressing today was significantly more coordinated. We identified pressing zones and timing through training,” Conceicao explained.
“While Champions League elimination is disappointing, the positive aspect is that we now have dedicated training time. This time is vital for instilling habits that will translate to consistent performances on the field.”
Conceicao made significant changes to the starting lineup, already missing key players due to suspension and injuries. Despite these changes, Pulisic proved to be a decisive player. Conceicao shared his thoughts on Pulisic’s best position:
“Pulisic prefers to move inside and operate centrally. I wanted him to play between the lines, using Reijnders and Bondo to draw out Lecce’s midfielders and create space. Pulisic is versatile and can play behind the striker or on the wings. Although he started on the left today, I believe his optimal role is cutting into the center,” Conceicao concluded.
“He is exceptionally talented and intelligent, allowing him to adapt to various roles.”
