Conceicao: “Milan Lacks Winning Mentality, Second Half Performance Inexcusable”
Sergio Conceicao expressed deep disappointment following Milan’s 2-0 defeat to Juventus. The Rossoneri suffered a poor second half, conceding goals to Mbangula and Weah. In his post-match interview, Conceicao emphasized the team’s lack of hunger:
“The first half was balanced, with us creating more chances. However, Juventus showed more desire to win after the break. We nearly conceded early on due to careless dribbling in our box. I take full responsibility as the coach for these incomprehensible actions.”
Dismissing fatigue as an excuse, Conceicao stated, “It’s January, and players have ample time to recover. The will to win is paramount. We must cultivate that hunger.”
The coach further expressed his frustration: “I’ve managed teams with less technical ability, but they possessed hunger and determination. We need to set personal goals and grow, maintaining that hunger throughout our careers. I’ve watched all of Milan’s matches, and I see no improvement. It’s my responsibility to change this mentality.”
Conceicao refused to place blame solely on experienced players like Leao, Theo, and Mike, insisting that everyone must take responsibility. He emphasized, “It’s not about technical or physical issues. The fundamental problem is the lack of desire to win every match and every duel as if it were decisive.”
Addressing the transfer market, Conceicao hinted at the need for reinforcements: “We’re discussing solutions with management. It’s clear that I expect something from the transfer market.”
The Portuguese coach concluded by expressing his concern and determination to change the team’s environment: “I’m worried, and I’m considering ways to alter the atmosphere in the locker room and around the squad. We must do more, with important competitions ahead. The players need to look in the mirror and decide what they want to achieve.”
