Conceicao Seeks Balance After Milan’s Champions League Setback

Following AC Milan’s 1-0 defeat to Feyenoord in the Champions League play-off first leg, coach Sergio Conceicao acknowledged the need to find the right balance in his team. Despite fielding an attacking lineup featuring four strikers, Milan struggled to create chances and conceded an early goal due to a goalkeeping error.

Conceicao defended his tactical approach but admitted improvements are necessary. “We need to do more. The Champions League atmosphere should motivate us, not intimidate us,” he stated. The coach emphasized that while the result was disappointing, the tie remains open for the return leg at San Siro.

Addressing Milan’s inconsistent form since his arrival in December, Conceicao stressed the importance of enhancing the team’s mentality and work ethic. “We must all give more and raise our level. It’s difficult to change, but not impossible,” he explained.

The coach also responded to criticism about potentially underestimating Feyenoord, asserting that he respects all opponents equally and prepares thoroughly for every match. Conceicao acknowledged the challenge of balancing Milan’s attack-minded players with defensive stability, stating, “I am responsible for finding the right balance, and I need to work on that.”

As Milan prepares for the crucial second leg, Conceicao’s ability to address these tactical and mental challenges will be key to the team’s Champions League aspirations.
