Multiple sources confirm that José Mourinho`s Fenerbahçe are eyeing Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu. However, there is disagreement over who Inter would target as a replacement if the Turkish star departs. Italian media outlets have mentioned both Granit Xhaka and Morten Frendrup as potential priorities for the Nerazzurri.
Gazzetta dello Sport: Xhaka Top Choice for Inter
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Granit Xhaka is Inter manager Cristian Chivu`s preferred option should Calhanoglu leave. The Swiss international has also drawn interest from Juventus and AC Milan. Gazzetta reports that while Xhaka is not Inter`s only midfield target, he is clearly Chivu`s top choice.
Corriere dello Sport: Frendrup Leading Candidate
In contrast, Corriere dello Sport claimed on its Sunday front page that Genoa`s Morten Frendrup is actually the leading candidate to replace Calhanoglu at Inter. The report suggests Frendrup has emerged as Inter`s primary target if they need to find a new midfielder.
Atalanta`s Ederson was previously linked as well, but his €50 million price tag may be prohibitive. Inter are also in talks with Atalanta regarding forward Ademola Lookman, which could complicate any move for Ederson.
For now, Calhanoglu remains an Inter player with a €30 million valuation. While Fenerbahçe have shown interest, along with domestic rivals Galatasaray, Inter have not yet received any formal offers for the Turkish midfielder. However, the club appears to be preparing contingency plans in case an interested party meets their asking price this summer.
