Conte: Mixed Feelings After Napoli’s Draw with Lazio

Following Napoli’s 2-2 draw with Lazio in Serie A, manager Antonio Conte shared his thoughts on the match outcome. The result left Conte with conflicting emotions – pleased with the team’s performance but frustrated by the late equalizer.

Napoli fell behind early to a Gustav Isaksen goal before mounting a comeback through Giacomo Raspadori and an Adam Marusic own goal. However, Boulaye Dia’s 87th minute strike denied Napoli the victory.

Conte highlighted a key tactical shift, introducing Matteo Politano for Alessandro Buongiorno and adjusting to a 3-5-2 formation. This move, according to Conte, demonstrated Napoli’s intent to secure all three points.

The manager explained: “We made a statement with our substitution, showing our desire to win. This change proved effective. However, when Mazzocchi requested to be replaced, it presented a challenge as our options were limited.”

Injuries to other wing-backs forced Conte’s hand, leading to the Serie A debut of Rafa Marin. Despite the setbacks, Conte praised his team’s resilience: “We’ve shown our quality and proven difficult to beat. However, conceding late leaves a bitter aftertaste.”

Conte emphasized the importance of adapting tactics to suit player strengths, noting Raspadori’s effective role as a support striker alongside Romelu Lukaku in the 3-5-2 system.

While acknowledging the disappointment of dropping points, Conte maintained a positive outlook: “We must view these draws at the Olimpico as favorable results. It’s crucial to remember our starting point and appreciate the extraordinary progress we’ve made.”

As Napoli awaits the outcome of the Inter-Juventus match, which could impact the Serie A standings, Conte remains focused on his team’s development: “We continue to give our best, staying grounded and proud of our achievements thus far.”
