Conte: Napoli Close to Achieving Remarkable Scudetto
Antonio Conte acknowledges that winning the Scudetto in his inaugural season with Napoli would be an extraordinary feat. The team now holds a three-point lead over Inter with just four matches remaining in the Serie A season.
The atmosphere at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona was electric, as Napoli has seen a significant six-point swing at the top of the Serie A table over the past eight days. After trailing Inter by three points, the Partenopei now lead by three following consecutive victories against Monza and Torino, while Inter suffered defeats to Bologna and Roma.
When asked if he and the Napoli players watched Inter’s loss to Roma together, Conte replied, “To be honest, I didn’t follow it at all. We already experience enough stress from our own matches, why should we worry about others? I actually watched the second half of Fiorentina-Empoli. You can choose to believe me or not, it doesn’t matter to me. I turned off my phone and only learned the result later. Everyone decides how they want to handle the pressure.”
Napoli’s Strong Performance
Napoli dominated Torino with a brace from Scott McTominay, who has now scored 11 Serie A goals this season, including four in the last three matches.
Conte emphasized the importance of the remaining matches: “We have four steps left to take. We’ve completed the first one, and we’re in the lead. Now we face teams like Lecce and Parma fighting to stay in Serie A, followed by Genoa and Cagliari. It’s all in our hands. We won with great determination, demonstrating our strengths, and the crowd’s support was invaluable today.”
The coach also commented on the passionate Napoli fanbase: “I’ve realized that I should focus solely on discussing football, as everything else gets misconstrued and taken out of context.”
Key to Napoli’s Success
Conte highlighted the importance of Napoli’s midfield this season, praising not only McTominay but also Stanislav Lobotka and Frank Anguissa. He noted, “We needed to find goals, as we don’t have many players who consistently score in double figures. We’ve worked hard to improve everyone in the group, and we’re seeing the results of that effort.”
With 74 points and four rounds remaining, Conte believes Napoli has secured a Champions League spot. He added, “Considering where we started, that’s remarkable. All credit goes to the players.”
When asked about the potential of winning the Serie A title, Conte simply stated, “The Scudetto would be prodigious.”
