Conte Reflects on Challenging Victory Against Milan

Antonio Conte revealed his frustration after Napoli’s 2-1 victory over Milan, describing it as “one of those days where I hate being a coach.” The Napoli manager was forced to make last-minute tactical changes due to Scott McTominay’s absence, adding complexity to an already crucial match.

Napoli started strong, taking a 2-0 lead within the first 19 minutes through goals from Matteo Politano and Romelu Lukaku. Despite Milan’s Luka Jovic scoring late in the game, Napoli held on for a vital win that keeps them in contention for the Serie A title.

Conte explained the challenges he faced: “We lost McTominay at the last minute, so I had to change our tactics. We were originally planning to start with Jack Raspadori in a 4-4-2 formation, with McTominay on the left wing. This was a day where being a coach was particularly difficult, having to alter our entire game plan at the eleventh hour.”

The win was crucial for Napoli, keeping them within reach of league leaders Inter. Conte acknowledged the importance of the result: “Winning today was fundamental. We’re still in the race, and after eight months of hard work, it would be foolish not to believe in something extraordinary.”

Looking ahead, Conte emphasized the need to maintain focus: “We have eight games left, and we need to concentrate on those. Only after that can we think about the future.” He also expressed his gratitude to Napoli fans, stating that he and the team have begun to repay the enthusiasm they’ve received since his arrival.

As speculation about Conte’s future continues, with rumors linking him to other clubs, the coach reaffirmed his commitment to Napoli’s current campaign, highlighting the extraordinary nature of their achievements this season.
