Conte Warns of Potential Napoli Departure: ‘Can’t Rely on Miracles Instead of Planning’

Antonio Conte has strongly indicated that he may leave Napoli this summer following another critique of the club. He stated, “I cannot depend on miracles rather than proper planning. I don’t want to be set up for failure. I’ve witnessed our projects being undermined.”

The coach had previously stirred controversy with his pre-match comments, where he revealed that after eight months at the club, he had come to realize “there are certain things you cannot accomplish” at Napoli.

Following the 1-0 away victory against Monza, which keeps their title hopes alive, Conte intensified his criticism of high expectations, raising serious doubts about his future with the club.

“I enjoy living in Naples, as does my family. The sun, the excellent cuisine, the welcoming people – these are all part of my personal life. However, I can’t focus solely on that,” Conte explained.

“I carry a significant responsibility, one that you in the media are quick to assign me, suggesting that with Conte as coach, the team is bound to win. Since you place this responsibility on me, I don’t want to disappoint the fans.”

“It’s impossible to sustain success based on miracles rather than strategic planning.”

Conte Criticizes De Laurentiis and Napoli Management

Regarding President De Laurentiis, the coach was more specific about the situation.

“I respect and admire the President. They asked me to assist, and I’m doing so, but Napoli fans demand success and are ambitious. If we don’t win, they can become hostile.”

“I need to consider everything carefully; I’m not naive. I put immense pressure on myself, but I also require the right tools to compete. Otherwise, it becomes an impossible task, and I don’t want to be set up for failure.”

When asked if this means Conte plans to leave Napoli at the season’s end, he responded:

“I will discuss matters with the President, and then we’ll see what happens. The Champions League qualification income will arrive, and the sale of Kvaratskhelia has helped us financially, but now it’s time for a frank conversation with the President.”

“I’ve given my all, and then some. Now, along with my dedicated players who are working incredibly hard, we aim to win.”

“I have a good relationship with De Laurentiis, but I also need respect. Recently, I’ve observed a lack of respect and undermining of our projects. I need to protect myself; otherwise, this will have been a wonderful but brief journey together.”

“I’m doing this for the Napoli fans and for myself. I won’t allow myself to be taken advantage of or abused.”

Despite these issues, Napoli remains in contention for the Serie A title, currently tied at the top of the table with Inter, who face Bologna on Sunday.

“We must maintain our belief and hope for a bit of luck. Unfortunately, luck hasn’t been on our side since January,” Conte added.

“We continue to believe, as the players are exceptional in challenging situations, and we’re building a solid foundation through these difficulties. Seeing all these fans supporting us is emotional, but it also places an enormous responsibility on me.”
