Controversial Handball Incident in Como-Juventus Match Sparks Debate

A contentious moment during the Como-Juventus match has become a topic of heated discussion. Juventus secured a crucial victory in their pursuit of a Champions League spot, thanks to Kolo Muani’s impressive brace. However, a questionable incident involving defender Gatti has overshadowed the win.

In the 80th minute, Gatti appeared to make contact with the ball using his fingers while challenging Strefezza in the penalty area. Despite Como’s protests, referee Abisso, after consulting VAR, allowed play to continue. This decision has sparked debate, as Gatti seemed to move his arm towards the ball while attempting to outmaneuver his opponent.

The incident has divided opinion among DAZN commentators. Refereeing expert Marelli defended the decision, stating, “This is a matter of interpretation. It’s legitimate to have different opinions. The VAR team’s consistency is evident when compared to a similar incident in the Inter-Napoli match. In both cases, the contact was deemed accidental and not worthy of a penalty.”

Former player and pundit Valon Behrami, however, disagreed: “I understand the reasoning, but that deflection changes the ball’s trajectory significantly. It’s a touch that greatly impacts the attacker’s coordination. In my view, there were sufficient grounds to award a penalty.”

This controversial moment is likely to fuel discussions in the football community for some time to come.
