Copa del Rey Quarter-Finals Update: Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid Advance
The quarter-finals of Spain’s Copa del Rey are underway, with half of the matches now completed. Eight teams are competing in this knockout round between February 4-6. The Copa del Rey is Spain’s most prestigious domestic cup competition, giving lower division clubs a chance to face top professional teams.
Real Madrid 3-2 Leganés
Real Madrid narrowly defeated Leganés in a thrilling Madrid derby. The visitors took an early 2-0 lead, but Leganés fought back to equalize at 2-2. Just when extra time seemed inevitable, Real Madrid scored a dramatic 93rd minute winner to advance to the semi-finals.
Atletico Madrid 5-0 Getafe
Atletico Madrid dominated their local rivals Getafe in a lopsided 5-0 victory. Manager Diego Simeone rotated his squad but still saw an impressive performance, with Giuliano Simeone scoring twice in the first 17 minutes. Samuel Lino added a third before halftime, while late goals from Correa and Sorloth completed the rout.
