Inter Milan has officially announced the appointment of Cristian Chivu as their new head coach. The former Inter player has signed a contract until 2027, taking over from Simone Inzaghi who departed after four seasons in charge.
Chivu, 44, returns to Inter after a brief spell with Parma, where he successfully guided the team to Serie A safety in the 2024-25 season. His coaching journey at Inter began in 2018, progressing through various youth teams before leading the Primavera side to a league title in 2022.
The Romanian`s appointment comes following a disappointing end to Inter`s season under Inzaghi. Despite being in contention for a treble in April, the team fell short in all competitions, losing the Serie A title to Napoli by a single point and suffering a heavy 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final.
During his playing career, Chivu spent seven years at Inter, winning numerous titles including three Serie A championships and the 2010 Champions League. His resilience was highlighted when he returned to play just 77 days after suffering a severe skull fracture in 2010.
Inter`s statement praised Chivu`s dedication, sacrifice, and work ethic, values that have guided him throughout his career. The club expressed confidence in Chivu`s ability to lead the team into a new era, building on his deep connection with the club and its fans.
As Chivu begins this new chapter, Inter supporters will be eager to see how he shapes the team and whether he can bring fresh success to the Nerazzurri.
