Crystal Palace Bids Over £10 Million for Versatile Midfielder

Crystal Palace has made a significant move in the January transfer window, submitting a bid of over £10 million (€12 million) for Trabzonspor midfielder Batista Mendy. The Eagles are keen to bolster their squad as they aim to climb further up the Premier League table.

However, Palace faces stiff competition from French side Rennes, who have also tabled an offer for Mendy. Reports suggest the player may prefer a move to France, but Trabzonspor is holding out for a higher fee of around £12 million (€15 million).

Mendy, described as a “complete package,” has been a long-term target for Palace. The defensive midfielder, who can also play in central defense, would add versatility and steel to the Eagles’ lineup. His potential signing could help fill the void left by the injured Adam Wharton.

The 24-year-old French player has impressed in the Turkish Süper Lig this season, making 18 appearances and providing 2 assists. His defensive stats are particularly noteworthy, averaging 4.7 ball recoveries and 1.2 tackles per game.

As the transfer window enters its final week, Palace manager Oliver Glasner will be hoping to secure Mendy’s signature to strengthen the squad for the remainder of the season. The club may need to increase their offer to meet Trabzonspor’s valuation and fend off interest from Rennes.
