According to RMC Sport, DAZN is considering not paying its Ligue 1 TV rights fees because they feel the French league’s governing body, the LFP, is not being loyal. The broadcaster might even take legal action because of the relationship problems between them.
A source involved in the negotiations said that the league being blamed for piracy is a major point of disagreement in their ongoing discussions. If DAZN withholds payments, it could cause more financial problems for many Ligue 1 clubs that are already struggling.
Back in 2020, Ligue 1 made a TV rights agreement with Mediapro, which led to the creation of the Téléfoot channel. This deal was a record financial boost for Ligue 1 and was supposed to improve club finances. However, when payments were missed, an emergency deal with Canal+ had to be made to prevent clubs from going bankrupt.
