Atalanta captain Marten de Roon has stated that the club is open to Ademola Lookman`s return if the player`s attitude improves. This comes after Lookman was left out of the squad for their upcoming Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain due to concerns about his focus in training.
De Roon explained, “We`re concentrating on the players who are here with us. The door remains open for Lookman if he chooses to return with the right mindset.”
The Champions League fixture against PSG is scheduled for Wednesday evening at the Parc des Princes. Atalanta will be without injured players Ederson, Gianluca Scamacca, and Mitchel Bakker.
Reflecting on Atalanta`s previous encounter with PSG in the 2020 Champions League quarter-finals, De Roon said, “It`s a different atmosphere now. We`re facing one of Europe`s top teams in a packed stadium. While it will be challenging, we`ve proven ourselves in difficult away matches before.”
De Roon also touched on adjusting to new coach Ivan Juric`s tactics after nine years under Gian Piero Gasperini: “There are similarities, but also differences. We need some patience as we adapt to the new system.”
He concluded by emphasizing the value of European competitions: “These matches always offer something special – a lesson in pace and intensity. Whether we win, lose, or draw, the key is to learn from the experience and apply it in Serie A. We must embrace this challenge.”
