This season, Mason Greenwood has demonstrated his scoring ability for Marseille, netting 16 goals in 27 appearances. However, Roberto De Zerbi, the Italian coach at Marseille, believes that the talented English striker is capable of achieving even more.
Despite Greenwood’s notable goal count this season, De Zerbi has openly stated his expectation for greater contributions from the player. He emphasized that for Greenwood to realize his aspirations of becoming a top player, he must enhance his consistency, dedicate himself more fully, and exhibit greater determination on the field.
De Zerbi pointed out Greenwood’s fluctuating performance levels, describing his form as inconsistent. Furthermore, he conveyed a clear message regarding team standards, stating that subpar training performance will lead to a player being benched, regardless of their reputation. This principle was recently exemplified when Greenwood was left out of the starting lineup for the Ligue 1 match against RC Lens, a game which Marseille lost 1-0 at home.
