Italian national team goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is the target of strong criticism in France after Paris Saint-Germain’s unexpected Champions League defeat against Liverpool, whose goalkeeper is Alisson Becker.
PSG largely controlled the match at Parc des Princes, demonstrated by their 28 shots on goal compared to Liverpool’s mere two, and 84 attacks versus 26. Alisson Becker made an impressive nine saves during the game.
Many of Alisson’s saves were truly outstanding, confirming his status as one of the top goalkeepers, even at 32 years old.
Conversely, Donnarumma managed to get a hand on Harvey Elliott’s shot but couldn’t prevent it from going into the net.

Donnarumma’s Performance Questioned in PSG’s 0-1 Loss to Liverpool
Bertrand Latour, speaking on Canal+, openly criticized the Italian goalkeeper for the defeat.
“A Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper cannot concede such a goal,” he stated.
Fan reactions on social media were equally harsh, with comments highlighting that “the difference tonight was that one team had Alisson in goal, and the other had Donnarumma.”
It was pointed out that while Alisson made nine saves, Donnarumma “failed on the only save he had to make.”
This season has been challenging for the former Milan player, who is still visibly marked by a large scar on his cheek from a collision with Monaco’s Wilfried Singo in December 2024.
