Roma midfielder Edoardo Bove is on the verge of returning to professional football, just four months after a frightening on-field collapse. The 23-year-old Italian, who was on loan at Fiorentina, suffered a cardiac incident during a Serie A match against Inter Milan on February 6.
Bove`s heart briefly stopped during the game, but medical staff were able to resuscitate him before he was rushed to a nearby hospital. Doctors subsequently diagnosed an undetected heart condition and fitted Bove with an implanted cardiac defibrillator, similar to the device given to Danish footballer Christian Eriksen in 2021.
Recent medical evaluations have shown that Bove has made a full recovery, paving the way for his return to competitive football as early as next season. While a few final tests remain, the young midfielder is optimistic about continuing his career in the near future.
However, due to strict Italian regulations regarding athletes with cardiac devices, Bove may need to pursue opportunities outside of Italy to resume playing. This situation mirrors that of Eriksen, who was forced to leave Inter Milan after receiving his defibrillator implant.
As Bove prepares for his comeback, the football world eagerly anticipates his return to the pitch, albeit likely in a league outside his home country. His recovery serves as an inspiring example of resilience and the advancements in medical care that allow athletes to overcome serious health challenges.
